The ability for a woman to have an orgasm as
she ages depends on many things, including
psychological factors and hormones.
There have been some studies on aging and sexual
behavior that have found both men and women show
a “general” decline of sexual function starting
in their thirties and forties, but still many
people have orgasms well into their nineties!
Often times the decrease in sexual activity with
old age can be directly related to the loss of
their lifelong sexual partner due to death or
illness as opposed to just a loss of wanting
to have sex or the inability to physically have
In fact there have been many studies that show,
for women, the ability to become sexually excited
and have an orgasm remains and actually can increase
as they age.
Physically, hormones have the greatest impact, and
the reason women in their forties (and older) may
feel more sexually driven is because of increased
testosterone levels. Testosterone is usually thought
of as a male only hormone, but women actually produce
it from puberty on.
The testosterone can have many different effects one
of which is increased sexual desire. However
testosterone is very powerful, so women produce
the sex hormone-binding globulin or SHBG, which
soaks up much of the testosterone to help keep it’s
effects under control.
The levels of SHBG are determined by estrogen and
as women age and approach menopause, their estrogen
levels fall which results in less SHBG, less SHBG
means more testosterone, more testosterone results
in an increase in sexual desire.
Another possible reason for an increase in sexual
desire as women age is the female hormone, oxytocin.
Oxytocin is the hormone that helps to advance the
bond a woman feels with her partner. The more sex
a woman has the more oxytocin she’ll produce and
the closer she feels to her partner and thus wants
to have even more sex.
Other psychological factors that can play a role
in a woman’s increase in sexual desire are, she
may feel less worried about becoming pregnant then
she did in her younger years. Also as women age
they tend to become more comfortable with their
bodies and have a “healthier” outlook on sex.
All this can have a positive impact on their sex life.
One thing women can do as they age to keep their
bodies in tip top sexual shape is to practice Kegel
exercises. Kegel exercises are designed to strengthen
the pelvic floor. Things like natural child birth
can greatly weaken the pelvic floor muscles, keeping
up on Kegel exercises will tighten up those muscles
and make sex much more pleasurable.
It’s important to note that there are some cases that
when older women have sexual problems, some of the
reasons are related to decreases in the secretion of
the sex steroids estrogen and androgen. Many of these
conditions can be easily corrected with the right
For example vaginal dryness and a condition known as
dyspareunia (painful intercourse) are due to low levels
of estrogen which can easily be corrected by vaginal
It’s my belief that healthy women of any age can have
orgasms all throughout their lives. Of course there
are certain physical and psychological techniques you
need to know that will greatly increase your chances

to teach you all of these techniques in the Female Orgasm
